Tasmania extends fracking ban for another five years

The Tasmanian government will extend its ban on fracking for five years to protect the state's agricultural industry. The decision was announced on Thursday after a review into the mining practice of hydraulic fracturing, a popular method to source coal seam gas.

A deepsea natural gas discovery in the northern part of the South China Sea has certified proven reserves exceeding 100 billion cubic metres, making it one of China's biggest offshore finds, Chinese state television reported. CNOOC Ltd announced the discovery last August after the Lingshui 17-2 well tested 56.5 million cubic feet per day.
